Donna G. Barnes, 78, of Conde, SD, died Friday, May 21, 2010 at her home in Conde. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 25th at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Conde. Father Christopher Hughes will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1-4:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home and starting at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Scripture wake service and Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. at the church in Conde. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Donna was born November 2, 1931 in Clark, SD to Johnny and Genevieve (Hess) Hynes. The family resided in Conde where Donna attended Conde School, graduating in 1949. Donna joined her father's dance band playing piano until 1952. Donna married Ola Barnes Jr. on September 23, 1952 in Conde. In 1962, Ola acquired his own business, Motor Service, and Donna was the bookkeeper until they retired in 1999. While the children were growing up, Donna was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Juniorette Catholic Daughters counselor. She was also a CCD teacher.
Donna was a member of St. John's Altar Society, Catholic Daughters Court St. Bernice, Conde Civic Development Association, Conde Senior Citizens and Spink County Historical Society. She was also an active member of St. John's Church serving as a lector and Eucharistic Minister.
Donna is survived by her husband Ola of Conde, five sons: David (Tina) Barnes of Yankton, SD; Paul (Mary) Barnes of Manderville, LA; Tom Barnes of Lexington, KY; Mike (Nancy) Barnes of Spearfish, SD; Jim (Susan) Barnes of Lakeville, MN; two daughters: Anna (Darrell) Page of Lenexa, KS; Nancy (Dennis) Williams of Rapid City, SD; son-in-law Jim Volk of Valley Springs, SD. She is also survived by her brother Pete (Marlene) Hynes of Crofton, NE; her sisters-in law: Louise Travis of Wichita, KS; and Mary Hynes of Schuyler, NE; twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by three children, who died of Cystic Fibrosis, Joseph and Theresa Barnes and Mary Volk, four grandchildren, two sisters: Joyce Morrill and Margaret Pibal and one brother Bill Hynes.
