Obituary



Donna L. (Nicholas) Bicknese, 89, of Redfield, SD, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Frankfort United Methodist Church in Frankfort, SD. Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Frankfort.

Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Family will be present during this time to accept condolences. Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)

Donna Lou Nicholas was born November 30, 1927 in Granville, ND to Don C. and Lulu (Donoho) Nicholas. She moved with her parents to Aberdeen, SD in 1938. Donna graduated from Aberdeen Central Public High School in 1946. She attended Northern State Teacher's College in 1946 and 1947 where she met her beloved husband, Conrad W. Bicknese. They were married in 1950 at the Aberdeen First United Methodist Church.

Donna was a homemaker, the mother of four children, grandmother to eight, and at the time of her death, great-grandmother to twelve. Donna enjoyed chess, tennis, whist, teaching Sunday school, river boating, reading and bible studies. She really did stop to smell the roses. She was a loving mother and a loyal friend.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, The Gray Ladies, United Methodist Church Women, American Legion Auxiliary, and Jobs Daughters.

Donna is survived by her husband, Conrad; her two sons: Danny G. (Karlan) Bicknese of Frankfort and David C. (Judy) Kessel of Riverdale, ND; her two daughters: Carol L. Bicknese of Redfield and Colleen M. (Allen Jr.) McKiver of Groton, SD; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Beverley Nicholas of Anaheim, CA.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, William W. Nicholas and O.K. (Booge) Nicholas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Brown County Humane Society, 13452 385th Ave., Aberdeen, SD, 57401.
