Donovan
Whitley
September 17, 1968 – November 14, 2022
Donovan Dale Whitley, 54, of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2022, at Community Memorial Hospital Avera in Redfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 21, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield. Reverend John Short will officiate. Lunch and fellowship will follow the service.
Donovan's Mass will be live-streamed to the funeral home's website, below his obituary. Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield has been entrusted with arrangements ( www.hykefuneralhome.com ).
Donovan was born on September 17, 1968, in Aberdeen, SD, to Ronald and Beverly Ann (Vance) Whitley. He attended Redfield Public School, graduating in 1986. After one year of mechanical drafting at L.A.V.T.I., he moved to Chicago, where he worked in the cable tv business. He always bragged about installing cable tv for Oprah Winfrey. Upon returning to Redfield, he met and married Lisa Johnson.
Donovan was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He was very talented and was always tinkering with something, from working on cars to home remodeling and many projects in between.
He was a family man who put his family first. He also enjoyed spending time with his many friends. He enjoyed cooking for others, which led to a career in food service. Most of us have had the joy of eating his creations.
Donovan is survived by his sons: Brandon (Annie Kuykendall) Whitley and Chris (Jaci) Johnson, all of Redfield; his daughters: Bryanna Johnson and children: Lyrikah and Willow of Webster, SD and Kierrah Hagman of Redfield; his life partner, Lisa Johnson of Redfield; his mother, Beverly Ann Whitley of Redfield; his sister, Lori (Lonnie) Sattler of Tulare, SD; his brother, Raymond Whitley of Watertown, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents, and one nephew.
