Doris Ann Barrie was born to Lawrence and Augusta "Gussie" (Bultman) Barrie on April 15, 1935, in Turton, SD. Doris grew up in Turton and attended Turton Country School.
Always a hard worker, Doris left her education behind to contribute to her family. Doris met Willard Schwartz in Redfield at the Pavilion in 1953. Willard soon proposed and they were married on August 12, 1954, at the priest's home in Turton.
Doris and Willard had nine children who were lucky enough to call her "mom".
Doris worked at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield for 37 years. Upon retirement, she worked at the Eastern Star Home for several more years.
Doris was an outgoing person who loved being with others and hosting get-togethers with her family and friends. She enjoyed sitting on her front deck watching the neighborhood. If Doris was on her deck, it was a sure bet that someone would soon join her for "refreshments"!
Doris had a wonderful personality and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed her flowers, bowling in her earlier years, and watching her children and grandchildren in their various sporting events.
Doris will be missed by her children and family: Tamara (Bill) Pierce of Aberdeen, SD; Wade (Sandy) Schwartz, Pat (Rob) Isaacson, Larry Schwartz, Sheree Levtzow, Frank (Anna) Schwartz, Sara Schwartz, and Mary Betten, all of Redfield; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; in addition to her brothers Richard Barrie and Joe (Betty) Barrie; and sister Mavis (Bob Gardner) Wherry.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willard and infant son Todd; parents; sister Helen Barrie; and brothers: Gerald, Donald, Kenny, and Lyle Barrie.
