Obituary

Duane M. Muxen, 86, of rural Doland, SD died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at his home.

His funeral will be Tuesday, January 5th at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, fellowship lunch to follow at the Frankfort Community Center.

Visitation will be Monday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials directed to the Good Samaritan Center in Redfield.

Duane Matthew Muxen was born February 23, 1923 one mile north of Frankfort to Matthew J. and Amy E. (Muellenberg) Muxen. Duane grew up in the Frankfort area and attended rural schools and graduated from Frankfort High School. Duane and Gladys A. Realsen were married in 1946 and they farmed near Frankfort until Gladys's death in 1999. Duane enjoyed square dancing wiht Gladys for many years. Duane continued living on the farm and kept busy restoring Massey-Harris tractors. Duane married Arlene Nielsen in 2003.

Duane was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club. He served sixteen years as Spink County Commissioner. As a commissioner, he was pleased that he helped with the redistricting, removing the old jail and acquiring the Chevy Garage for use as the county highway shop and office. He was also involved with the Frankfort Community Center and had served several terms on the Doland School Board.

Duane is survived by his wife Arlene of Redfield; his son Barry (Kathy) Muxen of Doland; his daughter Marla Muxen of Brookings, SD; his grandson Andy Muxen of Rapid City, SD and his granddaughter Patricia Muxen of Watertown, SD. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn Mayer of Frankfort, his brother Merle (Helen) Muxen; he is also survived by Arlene's family and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Gladys, his son Roger in 1977 and his brother Milo.
