Obituary

Edward "Al" Allen Moeller, 92, of Redfield, SD, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at the Community Memorial Hospital Avera in Redfield.  Public visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2020, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. with military honors outside the church after the service.  Reverend John Short will officiate.  Inurnment will follow at a later date.

The Mass at 10:30 a.m. will be live-streamed to the funeral home's website.  Masks and social distancing are recommended.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield.  (www.hykefuneralhome.com)

On February 25, 1928, Edward Allen Moeller was born in Redfield, SD to Otto and Anna (Fink) Moeller.  He attended Catholic school in Zell, SD until the eighth grade.  In 1951, he joined the Marine Corps in San Diego, CA.  He returned home to the family farm in 1952.

Edward married Villa Barton on February 11, 1956, in Mellette, SD.  They loved to have a great time together and with family and friends.  He enjoyed dancing, roller skating, roller blading, bike riding, golfing, fishing, camping, hunting, reading, boating, and snowmobiling.

He was the best backhoe operator in Spink County.  For many years, he worked at Leinen's Construction and spent 15 years working for the county.  He was known as a self-taught man.

Edward was a proud 60 plus-year member of the American Legion, serving as Commander for many years.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Villa Moeller of Redfield; and children:  Lana Francis of Herndon, VA; Steve (Patty) Moeller of Creston, IA; Sandy (Jim) Rikard of Lawton, OK; and Lisa (Russ) Franks of Redfield.  He is also survived by ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Hahn, Linda Brunn, Donna Palmer; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers:  Martin, Edwin, and Laurens; sisters:  Carolyn, Clara, and Edna; granddaughter Jessica Moeller; grandson Levi Zens; great-grandson Teague Miller; and son-in-law Joe Francis.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials directed to the Clay Kiser American Legion Post #92 or the Alzheimer's Association of South Dakota.
