Eleanor H. Lewis, 80, of Redfield, SD died Friday, April 8, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Redfield. Her funeral will be Wednesday, April 13th at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. Lunch and fellowship will be at the Ashton Community Hall, and burial at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and the family present at 6:00 p.m. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Eleanor Helen Lewis was born March 14, 1931, to Walter and Myrtle (Berberich) Becker at Ashton. As a child she lived for a few years in Midland, SD and then moved back to Ashton. Eleanor attended Ashton Public School graduating in 1949.
She married Philip Lewis June 20, 1954. They made their home on a farm east of Ashton and farmed until 1995. They continued to live on the farm until 2009, when they moved to Redfield. They had five children.
Eleanor was a member of the Ashton United Methodist Church until it closed. She then became a member of the Redfield United Methodist Church. She served as the President of the church Ladies Aid for many years. Eleanor was an active member of the Ashton Legion Auxiliary, serving as President for many years. She was a Spink County 4-H Leader, Royal Neighbor member, and a member of the Redfield VFW Auxiliary. Eleanor was active member of the Ashton community and was involved in planning many Ashton School reunions. She was a member of the neighborhood Birthday Club. Eleanor loved to quilt and was a member of the local quilt club.
She is survived by her husband Philip of Redfield, her children: Joy (LeRoy) Braun of Mellette, SD; Mary Kay (Bruce) Paul of Fort Dodge, IA; Warren (Carolyn) Lewis of Tulare and Dale (Lisa) Lewis of Frankfort, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Hazel (Gene) Maher of Redfield, SD; her sister-in-law, Delores Becker of North Plate, NE; and her sister and brother-in-law Kaye (Robert) DeYoung of Stewartville, MN and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Diane; her brothers Clarence and Donnie; and her sister Dorothy Mae.
