Elizabeth "Betty" O. Josewski, 88, of Redfield, SD, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Interment will follow at the Tulare Cemetery in Tulare, SD.
Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. A prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Family will be present during this time to accept condolences. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)
Elizabeth "Betty" O. Yager was born December 26, 1928 to David and Lydia (Frankenfeld) Yager on the farm in Buffalo Township at Tulare, SD. She grew up on the farm and attended country school through 6th grade when she and her mother moved to Tulare. She attended Tulare School from 7th grade through high school and she graduated from Tulare High School.
After graduation, Betty moved to Aberdeen, SD where she worked for the Social Security office for a year and a half. On April 19, 1948, Betty married Clyde Josewski and they began their life together on the farm at Tulare until 1982 when they moved to Redfield, SD. They had one child, Barbara, born to their union. In the early years of their marriage, Betty helped with the farming, was a cook at Tulare School, worked at the Sooper Dooper Grocery store in Redfield and worked for 25 years at Redfield Community Memorial Hospital.
After Betty retired, she and Clyde spent many years traveling and camping and were members of the Good Sam Camping Club. Betty was very active in her community and spent many years until her death volunteering at the Tri-County Good Samaritan Food Pantry and was honored by the Volunteers of America for her 15 years of service. Betty was also an active member of her church, the United Methodist Church of Redfield and also volunteered and served when needed at the church. Betty spent many hours working in her yard; gardening and reading were her favorite hobbies.
Betty is survived by her daughter Barbara Romo and Ed Sharp of Mina Lake, SD; her nieces: Sandra McNeill; Rose Thompson; Bonnie Thompson; Annette Snodgrass; Dena Gabriel; Crystal Harrington; and Judy Smith; her nephews: David Yager, Jr.; Duane Yager; Keith Josewski; Bruce Josewski; Steve Swaney, and Al Swaney.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Josewski; granddaughter, Rebecca Romo; sister, Ada and her brothers: David, Paul and Ralph.
