Elizabeth "Betty" Rernleitner, 69, of Redfield, SD, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. Her funeral will be Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Faulkton, SD. Father Joji Itukulapati will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8:00 p.m. with the family present starting at 6:00 p.m. and a time for sharing of memories at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Betty was born September 30, 1943 in Faulkton to Anthony and Margaret (Tietz) Simon. She grew up in Faulkton before moving to Yankton and graduating from Mount Marty High School. She married William Rernleitner on April 25, 1964 in Denver. They lived in Colorado, Nebraska and Faulkton before moving to Redfield in 1991. She had a daycare center in her home in Faulkton and worked at the Faulkton Nursing Home. She started working at South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield in 1991. She retired from SDDC a few years ago.
Betty was an avid gardener and grew many beautiful flowers. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren and she was anxiously awaiting the birth of her new great grandchild.
Betty is survived by her children: William (Becky) Rernleitner of Redfield and their children: Steven and Amanda; Robert Rernleitner of Aberdeen and his children: Bobbi, Simone and Clayton; Kenny (Tracy) Rernleitner of Aberdeen and their children: Megan, Christian, Catlynn and Dalton; and Rick Rernleitner of Huron; Susan (Tony) Watson of Redfield and their children: Tricia and Trevor; and Sara Rernleitner of Redfield and her son Skylar. Betty is also survived by her brother Steven (Melissa) Simon of Murfreesboro, TN; and her two sisters: Joanne (Jim) Mischke of Watertown, SD; and Marilyn (Mike) Lane of Centennial, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William in 2001 and an infant daughter.
