Elmer was born November 5, 1929, in Lincoln Township, Clay County, IA to Earl and Florence (Nelsen) Dobson. He was raised and educated in Iowa, graduating from Okoboje Township Consolidated school in Milford, IA. He began his many years of farming in Iowa, where he continued to farm until 1965 when he moved to Redfield, SD. On August 28, 1965 he married Reita Crump at Miller, SD. Together they farmed south west of Redfield until he retired in 1999.

He loved spending time on the farm with his family and his pets. He truly loved watching his grandchildren grow and spending time with them. His granddaughter Rebecca was the apple of his eye. No one really knew if she was wrapped around grandpa's finger or if she had grandpa wrapped around hers.

Elmer will always be remembered for his quick wit, his sense of humor and his kindness. He would have given the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He enjoyed his retirement visiting with his friends and neighbors and driving around keeping an eye on the fields.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Reita of Redfield, SD; his daughter Renea ( Robyn) Van Bockel of Redfield, SD and their children Randy, Rebecca and Ryan; two sisters in law, Lavina Dobson and Willa Jean Dobson both of Milford, IA.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, one son Randy, two brothers Everett and Harvey.
