Ethelene Marie Geuke was born on December 12, 1925 to Albert and Violet (Boyd) Geuke on their rural farm north of Zell, SD.  She grew up with two brothers.  Ethelene attended grade school in Faulk County.  She then attended high school in Redfield, SD and graduated in 1943.  After graduation, she attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD for a six-week teaching course that was offered during the war.  After completing her teaching course, she taught one year at a country school near Cottonwood Lake, SD.

On June 28, 1944, Ethelene married Willard Fliehe at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Zell.  Together they had one daughter and two sons.  Willard passed away in November of 1976.  They had made their home on a farm west of Tulare, SD where she was a housewife and helped work the farm.  She continued to live there for 20 years after Willard's passing.  She moved to an apartment in Redfield in 1996 and moved to the Eastern Star Home in March 2012.

Ethelene enjoyed attending bible studies, reading, watching birds, gardening, playing cards and attending bingo with friends.   She took pride in taking care of her yard and home and loved visiting residents at the nursing homes until she was unable to do so.   She made many trips to Iowa and Colorado to visit her children and grandchildren.

Recently, she spent her time reading, watching TV (especially the Twins or Vikings), playing bingo, attending Mass and spending time with family and friends.  She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Ethelene is survived by her son Gordon (Nedra) Fliehe of Logan, IA; and daughter Gloria Atteberry of Loveland, CO.  She is also survived by four grandchildren: Michael (Shelly) Fliehe; Tyson Atteberry; Genese (Shane) Carsrud; and Michelle (Marc) Luett; eight great-grandchildren:  Sam and Casey Fliehe; Clayton and Garrett Luett; Haylee, Faith and Paeton Atteberry; and Angelina Lovenburg; one great-great-grandchild Nevaeh Lovenburg; brother Gordon (Betty) Geuke as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by an infant son Dennis, her husband and brother Carrol (Marjorie) Geuke.
