Evelyn was born in Zell to Frank and Alma (Pittman) Jungwirth. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Zell, graduated from high school in Rockham, and received her secretarial certificate in Mankato, MN. She married Russell Harr on January 7, 1938. They farmed near Zell for 40 years before retiring to Redfield in 1978.

She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and member of a devoted prayer cell group. She was a committed Grey Lady volunteer at Golden Living for over 30 years where she delivered mail, led rosary and crafts activities, and wrote letters. Her dedication earned her the first Volunteer of the Month distinction by Golden Living Center. She started each day with the crossword puzzle over her morning coffee and looked forward to the day's activities that usually included morning Mass followed by playing Tripoli or whist with friends, watching the Minnesota Twins, or keeping busy with crocheting and cooking. Evelyn was continually grateful to her many friends who offered rides, visited, or just checked in by phone. She always had a 'can do' attitude that carried her through life's journeys.

Grateful for having shared in her life include her daughter, Debra (Harr) Engelgau of Columbus, OH; daughter-in-law, Kathy Harr of Redfield; six grandchildren, Rick Harr of Texas, Rhonda (Greg) Stroh of Redfield, Cindy Van Vleet of Redfield, Laura (Ryan) Carlson of Arlington, SD, Angela (Chris) Zens of Madison, SD, and Jeana (Brad) Huizenga of Zell; eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and one sister, Agnes Corkins of Spearfish, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, LaDell and Doyle; daughter-in-law, Rosalie; great granddaughter, Regan; and four brothers and one sister.
