Floyd was born February 5, 1924 on the Eidsness family farm near Cottonwood Lake to Edwin and Ethel (Swope) Eidsness. Floyd was the fourth of seven children. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural elementary school and high school in Redfield and Tulare and graduated from Tulare High School. He was drafted in the Army in 1946 and honorably discharged in 1949.
He returned home to farm with his Dad and eventually took over the farm operation when he married Tessie Housh on February 28, 1958. To this union six daughters were born. Tessie passed away, in 1968, after a short illness and Floyd raised their daughters ages 2-9. He did a great job of being Mom and Dad to the girls until they were grown and on their own. During this time, he enjoyed playing cards with friends, hunting pheasants and deer hunting in the Black Hills. Floyd retired from farming in 1988.
Floyd was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ for many years and actively served on many committees as well as ushering. He and his daughters attended church on Sundays as a family. Floyd was a life time member of the American Legion Post 92 in Redfield and helped to remodel the building the Legion now occupies. He was a member of Fisher Grove Country Club, golfing often, and helping to finish the new clubhouse after the flood of 1997.
Floyd married Laura Lou (Zell) Boyer on May 24, 1991 and he moved to Redfield from the farm at that time. Floyd and Laura spent fifteen winters in Phoenix, AZ, golfing and dancing with their many new friends. They traveled many places, going to visit his daughter Sandy and family in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Austria, France, Canada, Mexico and a Mediterranean island cruise. Those fifteen years were wonderful and filled with memories. After Floyd's health began to fail, they stayed in Redfield full time and on April 12, 2013, Floyd entered Golden Living Center in Redfield and then moved to Eastern Star Home on December 13, 2013.
Grateful for having shared his life are his loving wife Laura of Redfield and daughters: Tammie (Dennis) Lessleyoung of Lennox, SD and her children, Angie, Tracy, and Penny; Mary (Jeff) Derringer, Sandy (deceased) and son-in-law Dan Jones and their children Nycole and Nathan; Cindy Swanston of Sturgis, SD and her children Jessica and Christopher; Sonja (Mike) Beckwith of Sioux Falls, SD and her children Ethan and Ashley; Laurie Klinghagen of Lennox, SD and her children Austin, Dustin and Tyler. He is also survived by a stepson, Dan Boyer of Grinnell, IA; stepdaughter Mary Sue Swanson of Huron, SD; 18 great grandchildren and his sisters Lois Stemper of Redfield, SD and Irene Nix of Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Tessie; his daughter Sandy; sisters Leila Jungwirth, Marion Hansen, Ginny Stapp and Lucille Harr; stepdaughter Kathy Boyer; brothers-in-law George Marlette, Doug Stemper, Wayland Harr, Bernard Jungwirth and Cloris Nix.
The family requests memorials to the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Floyd will be remembered for his good nature, love and devotion to his family and friends. Rest in peace my darling "Floydie" Love, Laura
