Forrest M. Preston, 88, of Redfield, SD, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Eastern Star Home in Redfield. His funeral will be Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate. After a time for fellowship and lunch, the burial will be in the Rockham Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Forrest was born July 23, 1926 in rural Redfield to Willis H. and Florence (Farris) Preston. He married Marie Rice on November 9, 1947. They farmed northeast of Zell until 1980 when they retired. Forrest was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #0034 in Redfield from 1950 to 2014, and he received his sixty year pin in 2010. In 1967, Forrest became a member of the Yelduz Shrine of Aberdeen. He served as Potentate from July 1982-December 1983. He remained active in the shrine, particularly helping people obtain services from the Shrine hospitals. In 1995-1996, Forrest served as president of the Midwest Shrine association where his love for the Shriner's mission for crippled children and burn patients were always foremost on his mind.
Forrest and Marie were members of the Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church.
Forrest and Marie enjoyed square dancing, traveling and wintering in the Texas valley.
Forrest is survived by his wife Marie of Redfield; his children: Michael (Christine) Preston of Brooklyn Park, MN; and their daughters: Carly and Laura; Janita (William) Smith of Wauconda, IL; and their children: Kirk, Jordan, Heather, Leslie, Stephen, Kinsey and Rebecca; and Twila of South Sioux City, NE and her son Merritt. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Donnie and John and his sisters: Annabelle Matheny and Mary Anderson.
