Francis "Bud" McNeely, age 90, of Redfield, SD passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, a private family graveside service, with military honors, will take place on Friday, May 1, 2020, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Reverend Tammy Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield. (www.hykefuneralhome.com)
Francis LeRoy McNeely was born in Hyde County, SD on July 8, 1929, to Cecil and Mabel (Brachvogel) McNeely. He attended country schools near Tulare, SD, and completed his education at Redfield and Athol High Schools. Francis entered the military in January of 1952 and served in the Korean War, returning as a sergeant in October of 1953. He married Frances Galvin on May 12, 1955, in Aberdeen, SD. They farmed eight miles northwest of Redfield and raised three children.
Francis was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Forty et Eight, the Athol Vets Club, and the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redfield. He served on several boards and was a good neighbor to many. His wife died in 1997 and he moved to Redfield in 2004. In June of 2019, Francis moved to assisted living at the Eastern Star Home.
Survivors include his daughter, Janet (Richard) Brubakken, of Brookings, SD; two sons: Allen (Connie) McNeely of Pierre, SD; and Russel (Lisa) McNeely of Aberdeen; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Leslie (Judy) McNeely of Coon Rapids, MN; and two sisters: Donna (Daryl) Hogg; and Mary Lee (Jerry) Stevens, both of Faulkton, SD.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and three sisters and their husbands: Betty Gene (Bob) Jackson; Eileen (Glenn) Hoellein, and Marion (Bud) Kennedy.
