Garrold Eldon Friese, 87, of Watertown, SD, passed away at home under hospice care with his loving family at his side on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
His services will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redfield, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Dustin Bartlett will officiate. Interment, with military honors, will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Following the committal service, coffee and bars will be served back at the church.

Garrold was born September 6, 1938, to Walter and Alice (Anderson) Friese in Redfield, SD. He grew up on a farm 14 miles southwest of Redfield and, as a young man, started working at Homestake Mine in Lead, SD, for two years before working at Dakota Best in Redfield for 30 years. In 1989, Garrold started his own business, Friese Sales and Service in Tulare, SD. In 1998, he moved to Watertown, SD, to become manager for Sukup Manufacturing. He retired in 2005, but returned to work part-time until fully retiring at the end of 2009.
Garrold married Darlene Geffre on August 4, 1963. She passed away in 2014. He married Charlotte Mulder on May 21, 2016.
Fishing, hunting, traveling, woodworking, and playing cards were Garrold's favorite hobbies. He proudly served in the Army National Guard and was also a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Watertown.
Garrold is survived by his wife Charlotte; children: Cindy (Scott) Wetzel of Forest Lake, MN, Laurie (Brad Kruger) Woodring of Clara City, MN, and Lynn (Coral Berg) Friese of Clear Lake, SD; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Darlene; and siblings: Eldeen Friese, Vyonne "Vi" Trowbridge, Marlene Penfold, and Darolyn Kineard.
