Gary Dean "Coop" Cooper, age 59, of Redfield, SD, formerly of New Ulm, MN passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 28th, 2023 under hospice care after a 10-month battle with cancer.

Gary was born on October 3, 1963 in Morris, MN. He was the son of Merlin "Mick" and Carol (Karels) Cooper. He attended New Ulm Public High School, graduating with the class of 1982.

Gary had an amazing work ethic and a heart to help anyone who needed it. Gary especially enjoyed anything with a motor, with a passion for dirt bikes and motorcycles. He took pride in his lawn, enjoyed finding treasures at an antique store, and spending time with his dogs Phoebe & Paisley.

Gary is survived by his long-time girlfriend, Darla Severance of Redfield; Mother, Carol Cooper of New Ulm, MN; Children, Samantha (Russell) Kral of Winthrop, MN and Daniel Cooper of Sleepy Eye, MN, Grandchildren, Bentley Cooper, Emerson & Holden Kral; Brother, Keith (Liz) Cooper of New Ulm, MN; Nephews, Alex (Thaisa) Cooper of Champlin, MN, Austin Cooper of New Ulm, MN, Darla's children and grandchildren as well many aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Mick, and his grandparents.

Darla will host a celebration of life gathering on Saturday, July 1 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at their residence (410 W 3rd Ave, Redfield, SD).

Gary's family will be hosting an additional celebration of life at a later date in New Ulm, MN with a private family burial to follow.
