Gary Eugene Schone, 63, of Redfield, SD died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at his residence in Redfield.

His funeral will be Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Military Rites will take place at the church following the service.

Gary was cremated and his burial will take place on May 14, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Frankfort Cemetery. www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com

Gary Eugene Schone was born September 20, 1952, to Mayo Dean and Beulah (Keiss) Schone at Redfield. He was raised and educated in Redfield and graduated from Redfield High School. After graduation, he moved to Watertown to attend dentistry school. On January 18, 1979 he enlisted in the United State Air Force and served until August 1, 1992 when he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Gary then enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard in 1993 and served until July 2001.

Gary worked at the Golden Living Center in Redfield for a number of years. He loved being around the people there. He moved into the Lake View Apartments where he made it his home until the time of his death. Gary could often be found helping others around the apartment building.

He enjoyed collecting anything that had to do with past history and reading books. Gary spent a lot of time at the Senior Center in Redfield visiting with people and could always be found with his friends in the afternoon at Subway sharing coffee and stories with his friends. He was very kind hearted and would help anyone in any way he could. Gary was a member of the Clay Kiser American Legion Post #92 in Redfield and the United Methodist Church.

Gary is survived by his sister Janet (Larry) Levtzow of Rockham, SD; his niece Lynita (Bryan) Wagner and their children, Hope and Haley of Wetonka, SD. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, many aunts and uncles and infant nieces.
