His funeral will be Friday, May 15th at 11:00 a.m.

Glenn F. Hoellein, 94, of Athol, SD, died Tuesday, May 05, 2015 at his home. His funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 at First Congregational UCC Church in Redfield. Reverend Tim Fugman will officiate. After a time for lunch and fellowship, the burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Northville, with military rites. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Glenn was born October 28, 1920 on the family farm near Athol to George and Jessie (Wilkins) Hoellein. He grew up on the farm and attended country school and Athol High School. He started farming with his family as a young man and joined the United States Army serving from 1942-1946. He served in the 3rd Army Anti-Aircraft Battalion as a radio repairman during the invasion and occupation of Okinawa. After his discharge, he returned to the farm and married Eileen McNeely on June 9, 1948 in Redfield. Glenn farmed and raised livestock all his life on the family homestead.

He was a member of the Redfield VFW and American Legion.

Glen and Eileen enjoyed square dancing and traveling. Glenn was a member of the James River Rifle and Pistol Club and enjoyed hunting and watching the deer in his yard.

Glenn is survived by his sons: Lyle (Diane) Hoellein of Athol and Gary (Lynn) Hoellein of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren: Shawn, Carl, Jeremy and Dustin, one step grandson Brad (Amy) Schafer and their two children, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eileen in 2011, his brother Leonard and his sister Geraldine Siebrecht.
