Obituary

Glenn William Johnson, 84, of Aberdeen formerly of Redfield died December 21, 2010 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Glenn was cremated and a memorial service will be on Saturday, June 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home, with Rev Tim Fugman officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery with full military rites.www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Glenn was born January 30, 1926 in Redfield to John and Alva (Rabuck) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Redfield, graduating in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-46. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Redfield and began farming. Glenn married Leah Fisher-Merxbauer on March 21, 1969. In 1970, they moved to Colorado and Glenn worked for Western Forge Tool Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1991. Glenn and Leah moved back to South Dakota in 1993 and resided in Miller, SD. In 1996, they moved to Redfield to enjoy their retirement. Leah passed away in February 1998. Glenn later moved to Aberdeen in 2009, where he was living at the time of his death.

He was an avid hunter and gardener and enjoyed carpentry work.

Glenn is survived by his sister Katharine Hartung of Aberdeen, his nephews: Dennis (Marion) Hartung and Ted (Rhonda) Hartung both of Aberdeen. Other survivors include Peggy Blanchard of Oklahoma, Matt (Sherri) Hartung of Nebraska, and numerous other nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leah, one brother Clinton Johnson and a sister Genene Hornsby.
