Gordon was born on February 24, 1934, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Eschenbaum) Muellenberg in Redfield and he grew up in rural Zell.  He attended Redfield High School before being drafted into the U.S. Army.  He was stationed in France during the Korean War.  After his honorable discharge, Gordon farmed for many years before moving into Redfield.  He worked for the Wilson Motel in Redfield for a year before taking on a position at the South Dakota Developmental Center as a carpenter until his retirement.

On September 6, 1954, Gordon married Madonna Littel at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Zell.  This union was blessed with four daughters, Leah, Lynette, Lisa, and Lori, and one son, Mark.

Gordon spent his time cutting wood, mowing grass, feeding the squirrels, and enjoying the lake cabin.  After retirement, he enjoyed family and attending local sporting events with the great-grandkids.  Family and friends will miss his infamous "Beer Can Chicken."

Gordon will be truly missed by his loving family, his children: Lisa Muellenberg, Lori Eaton, daughter-in-law Sheila Muellenberg, and son-in-law Michael Osborne.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren:  Shawn (Jessica) Lewis, Casey Solheim, Lorissa (Lance) Coyle, Hilary (Chris) Roman, Wendy Johnson, Stephanie (Tom Ehrisman) Johnson, Lindsay Bales, Heidi (Gabriel) Gehrke, and Heather (Christopher) Rude; 16 great-grandchildren; special friend Sharon; and friend and caretaker, Doug Holland who took care of and lived with Gordon for the past six years.
