Harley Kermit Beard, 99, of Redfield, SD, would like to inform all his family and friends, his change of address. As of March 12, 2015 he moved to heaven. He died at Golden Living Center in Redfield. His funeral will be Monday, March 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Kermit was born on November 9, 1915, in Frankfort, to John and Anna (Torkelson) Beard. Kermit attended country school before moving to Redfield to finish high school. Kermit married Harriette Hagman on September 28, 1940 in Redfield. Kermit and Harriette had one daughter, Linda Joyce Beard. Kermit enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and served in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After his discharge, he worked for Sunshine Dairy until he retired due to health problems in 1961.
Kermit spent time traveling and was active in the church and the Senior Citizen Center, until he lost his sight.
Kermit was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Kermit is survived by his daughter Linda (Mick) Ryman of Ashton, SD; three grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren: Bethanie Minnick (Rick Palmer), Christopher (Sara) Minnick and their daughters: Savannah and Cassidy; Kristina Minnick (Josh Emerson) and son Taylor, James Minnick and his children: Xaviar and Khalessi, Mercedes Garcia, Mike Minnick and Kelly Kampa, Corey Minnick and his daughter Rylie, Katie (Jesse) Boyd, Tyler Minnick and his daughter Trinity, Cheyanne Minnick, Colton Minnick, Shandalyn Minnick and Josh Coenen, Jaiden Lewison, Chandler Miles and Dairik Williams. He is also survived by his brother Harvey Beard of Redfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Harriette in 1979, his three brothers: Alvin, Leonard and Dean and one granddaughter: Joyce Marie Menning.
