Harlan Dean Siebrecht, 78, of Redfield, SD, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 at his home. A celebration of life will take place at 12 noon on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at the American Legion Club in Redfield following a private family burial at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Visitation will take place Friday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., with family present, at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com) Harlan Dean Siebrecht was born October 26, 1937 to Wesley and Anna (Schutte) Siebrecht in Redfield. He was named for the South Dakota Governor serving at that time, Harlan Bushfield. Harlan spent his younger years helping his mother milk cows and gather eggs and made good memories at the Spink County country grade school. He graduated from Redfield High School in 1955. Harlan served with the National Guard for eight years and after high school, he worked at the Dakota Hatchery and Mill in Redfield. In 1973, Harlan began driving school bus and he drove that bus for 17 years. Harlan married Myrna Paulson on April 28, 1963 and their son, Douglas Dean was born the following year on February 9, 1964. "Dougie" passed away on September 14, 1964 at only eight months of age following a brief illness. They adopted a son, Norman, and a daughter, Brenda, before divorcing in 1981. Life changed for Harlan in 1990 when he met Pastor Lyla Sloat of Wall, SD and they married in Wall on June 22, 1991. They lived in various parsonage homes over the years until she retired in 1997 and they bought an acreage in rural Conde, SD. From 2003 until his death, Harlan and Lyla were winter residents of Arizona and summer residents of Redfield. Harlan is survived by his wife, Lyla; his son, Norman Siebrecht of Redfield; his daughter Brenda (Jason) Hammrich of Aberdeen, SD; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas. Please direct memorials to the Redfield United Methodist Church Window and Door Project.
