Obituary

Harold "Bud" O. Ewing, Jr. 95, of Turton, SD died Friday, March 14, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Groton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 21st at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Turton. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery with military rites.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1-5:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home and starting at 6:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the church. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Bud was born March 18, 1918 in Turton, SD to Harold and Agnes (Becker) Ewing, Sr. Bud graduated from Turton High School and married Gleva Remily on September 24, 1941 in Turton. He served in the United States Army Air Forces from 1942-1945. After his honorable discharge, Bud and Gleva farmed for a few years before he started working for the US Postal Service as a Post Master. He was Post Master in Turton form 1954-1975 and in Ipswich from 1975 until he retired in 1981.

He was a member of the Retired Post Masters Association, Knights of Columbus and the Conde American Legion.

Bud enjoyed hunting, his dog "Bud", an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins, and later in life mowing his yard. His pride and joy was his family especially is grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bud is survived by his wife Gleva of Turton; his children: Linda (Art) Kirschenmann of Lakin, KS; Harold (Laurel Hearnen) Ewing, III, of Turton; Dale (Wanda) Ewing of Blue Springs, MO; Jane Pearson of Redfield; Craig (Kim) Ewing of Meade, KS; and Cindy (Eddie) Grote of Aberdeen. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Eileen Ewing, his grandson Don Kirschenmann, son-in-law Scott Pearson, two brothers: John and Robert and his sister Cathryn.
