Obituary

Hazel Inez Ferguson, 96, Redfield, SD died Monday, January 22, 2007 at Golden Living Center in Redfield, SD. Her memorial service will be Saturday, January 26, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Redfield, SD. Pastor Tim Fugman will officiate. Internment of ashes will be in the Rockham Cemetery.
Hazel was born July 15, 1910 in Wheaton Township to Albert and Henrietta (Stiengrube) Miller. She grew up in the Burdette area. In 1926, she graduated from Redfield High School. She attended Redfield College and earned her Rural Teaching Certificate. She taught for 5 years until she married Hilding H. Ganske in 1933. They had 2 sons: Gerold, who lived for 4 days, and Roger. In 1940, she married Mac Ronald Ferguson who adopted Roger. They had 2 sets of twins: Jerry and Judy and David and Diane.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Mary Circle, Woman's Fellowship and the Senior Center.
Hazel worked at various jobs including Redfield Laundry, ran a laundry in her own home, washed dishes at the coffee shop and for 16 years at the Redfield Developmental Center. After retirement, Hazel and Mac sold homemade jewelry. She enjoyed sending cards for all occasions to her friends and family.
She is survived by two sons: Roger (Nita) Ferguson of Red Lodge, MT; David Ferguson of Redfield; two daughters: Judy (Les) McNeely of Coon Rapids, MN and Diane Sattler of Sioux Falls, SD; 15 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Mac, her husband; two sons: Gerold and Jerry; one son-in-law; 5 sisters and 1 brother.
