Obituary

Helen Hansen, 89, of Hastings, MN, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings.

Her funeral will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Redfield, SD officiated by Reverend Brian Wasmoen, on Monday, July 9 at 10:30 AM.  Visitation is at Hyke Funeral Home on Sunday, July 8 from 2:00-5:00 pm and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.  Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Redfield, SD.

Memorials preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Redfield American Legion Auxiliary, or American Heart Association.

Helen (Filipek) Hansen was born September 1, 1928, to John Filipek, Sr. and Sophia (Wojtas) Filipek in Minneapolis, MN.  She grew up in the Doland, SD and Raymond, SD area graduating from Raymond High School in 1946.  She attended Huron College and taught country school in the Ashton area for one year.

On June 17, 1948, Helen married Gordon E. Hansen in Redfield, SD.  She worked as a farmer's wife and a mother to their three children.

Helen was a lifelong member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Redfield, SD.  She was Secretary-Treasurer of Love Circle for many years, served on the Alter Guild, helped make many quilts and served on the World Relief Committee.

Helen also worked at Harry's Egg Station in Redfield for 24 years.  She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary for 67 years.  She bowled many years, sewed clothes for her children, did embroidery, played cards, bingo, and canned home grown garden vegetables.  She loved fishing on family vacations.  She especially loved baking Christmas cookies for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Helen also was known for making mints for special occasions.

In 2011 she moved to Hastings, MN to be closer to her children.  She lived at Park Ridge Senior Living apartments where she enjoyed Bingo and visiting with all her new friends.  She enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings.

Survivors include her daughter, Candace (James) Weller, Hastings, MN; son, Dallas (Ann) Hansen, Fridley, MN; son-in-law, Steve Fischer, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Gordon (Jennifer) Hansen, Ramsey, MN; David (Kari) Weller, Rogers, MN; Debra (Ryan) Hafey, DeSmet, SD; Jessica Fischer, Fargo, ND; Sophia Fischer, St. Petersberg, FL; great-grandchildren, Alex and Katy Hansen, Kenzie, Maycie and Brylie Weller, Cole, Logan, and Luke Hafey, and Grace Fischer; sister, Ann Filipek, Rapid City, SD; sisters-in-law, Lois Filipek, Redfield, SD; Deonne Filipek, Watertown, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Cindy Fischer; parents; five brothers, three sisters, and three nephews.
