Hilda attended grade school at a country school a short distance from the farm. She attended Frankfort High School and graduated in 1936. After graduation, she remained at home to help on the farm. Hilda also worked for other families and neighbors and took care of a newborn baby for a year before her marriage. On March 22, 1942, she married Sebe DeYoung and they began their married life on a farm a couple of miles from her childhood home. In October 1944, they moved to the family farm north of Frankfort where they raised their five children. Hilda remained on the farm after Sebe passed away in 1989. In 2006, she moved to an assisted living in Altoona, WI to be closer to her daughter. In August of 2007, Hilda became a resident of the Eastern Star Home in Redfield.

Hilda was a very active farm wife and very involved with her children and their 4-H projects. She loved family gatherings and having her children and grandchildren around her.
