Inez Leanore Bush was born February 3, 1921 in Miller, SD to Royce Ovid Bush Sr. and Olga (Monnington) Bush. The family moved to St. Lawrence, SD when she was five years old. She attended St. Lawrence schools for twelve years, graduating from there in 1939. She attended two years of college in Wessington Springs, SD before teaching school in Wheaton and Plato townships.
Inez married Donavon Schade on January 24, 1944 at the Methodist Parsonage in Redfield, SD. They were blessed to be married for 72 years. They started their married life on a farm east of Cottonwood Lake, where they lived for one year. They then moved to the farm in Plato Township where they continued to live and farm until their move to Redfield in 1991. They moved into the Eastern Start Assisted Living on March 26, 2015 and Inez to the Eastern Star Nursing Home in July 2016.
To this union were born three children: Richard (Dick), Jill and George. Dick passed away in 1969 as a result of a National Guard accident near Webster. This left a heavy heart for Don and Inez. Dick farmed with them from 1967 until he passed away. At that time, George joined the farming operation. George and Carla continue to operate the farm along with their sons Lance and Landon and families.
Family was number one. She was a caretaker her whole life. Along with her own children, Inez helped raise her brothers and sisters. She was always worried about everyone and that they were safe in their travels, no matter where they went. She often expected or made a phone call to see that they were home safely.
She was always involved in farming and until the end, was still interested in the crops and cattle. Inez was a great cook, seamstress and also helped on the farm in her earlier years. She thoroughly enjoyed having the grand and great grandchildren around. She always enjoyed following their activities and especially their visits.
Inez had a passion for quilting and was a member of the Aberdeen Quilt Guild for many years. She and her sister, Rose Nuhsbaumer, and friend, Shirley Solheim, traveled together to many quilting events over the years. Until her eyes failed her in recent years, she quilted nearly every day. She was active in Klatter Club, in 4-H as a member and leader, and in the Wheaton Missionary Society for many years. She was a member of the Wheaton Congregational Church and then the Redfield First Congregational United Church of Christ. Inez enjoyed activities and fellowship with SD Wheat Growers board members. She and Don enjoyed traveling and were able to visit 47 states and Europe. They were known for their last minute road trips as well as just going for rides to check the crops, with their last ride together last Sunday.
Inez is survived by her husband, Donavon; daughter, Jill (Rich) Alkire of Redfield and son, George (Carla) Schade of Zell, SD. She is survived by five grandchildren: Holly (Darin Mason) Petersen, Amy (Willie) Rothacker, Andrea (Heath) Mushitz, Lance (Keri) Schade and Landon (Kallie Craig) Schade and great-grandchildren: Taylor and Zach Petersen, Blaine and Derrek Rothacker, Harper Schade and Kynslee and Gabe Mushitz. She is also survived by her sisters: Betty Schaffer, Rose (Joe) Nuhsbaumer, June (Jack) Ehrich; her brother, Sidney (Frances) Bush; her sisters-in-law: Ila Mae Bush, Rita Lunney and Helen Bush and two step brothers.
She was preceded in death by her son, Richard (Dick) Schade; brothers: Jim (Avis) Bush, Don (Trudy) Bush, Royce Bush, Jr., Keith (Charlotte) Bush, Lyman (Beverly) Bush, and baby boy Bush; sisters-in-law: Doris (David) Paschke, Irene (Bill) Ivers and Roberta Schade and brothers-in-law: Ben Lunney and Ed Schaffer.
Family will be present during this time to accept condolences.
