Irene Lois Nash Bye's Obituary
Irene Lois Nash Bye, 86, of Aberdeen, SD and formerly of Redfield, SD, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. Her funeral is 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Jody Van Roekel will officiate. Following a time of fellowship at Leo's Good Food in Redfield, burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Northville, SD.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home. Family will be present to accept condolences during this time. A time of sharing will begin at 7:30 p.m. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)
Irene Lois Arthurs was born May 21, 1931 in Mellette, SD to James and Josephine (Wendt) Arthurs. Irene grew up and attended school in Mellette. Irene married Gordon Nash on March 21, 1950 in Aberdeen, SD. The couple then moved to the Scatterwood area before moving to the homestead near Chelsea. The couple resided there together with their four girls until Gordon's death from a car accident on May 20, 1967. Following Gordon's passing, Irene continued living on the family farm with their daughters. In 1975, she married Leonard Bye. In the fall of 1977, Irene moved to Cresbard, running a daycare for many years, before moving to Redfield in the winter of 1987. In the spring of 2007, due to health reasons, Irene moved to Bethesda in Aberdeen.
Irene's hobbies included gardening, embroidering, bingo and card playing, viewing the countryside and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She also enjoyed meeting and making new friends in her "bingo circuit" and was an avid collector of bingo dabbers. Irene's daughters will remember the smell of rendering lard for the use of her signature, flaky homemade pie crusts.
Celebrating her life are her daughters: LaVonne Lopez, Ft. Worth, TX; Lois (Roy) Wilkins, Aberdeen; Lorraine Wilkins, Redfield; and Lynn Nash, Aberdeen; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great grandchildren and her brother, Willard Arthurs.
Preceding her in death were her husband; three brothers: Lawrence, Donald and Howard; and six sisters: Lucille, Alberta, Ellen, Ruth, Doris, and Inez.
