Obituary

James Stanley Coleman, 72, of Redfield, SD, died Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Community Memorial Hospital, Redfield.

Jim was cremated and a Remembrance Service to celebrate his life will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com

James Stanley Coleman was born on September 19, 1943 in Indianapolis, IN to James and Lavota (Hughes) Coleman. His mother passed away when he was very young and he was raised by his father and step-mother, Ann (Patterson) Coleman. James graduated from Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis in 1962. He entered the U.S. Navy after high school and proudly served for four years. He was on active duty in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis and served during the Vietnam War. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Indianapolis to earn his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He worked as an accountant with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Conseco before becoming a stockbroker with the Charles Schwab Company. Once he moved to Redfield, he was employed by the South Dakota Developmental Center.

James met Marcia (Mallory) Murphy and they had been together for nearly 19 years.

James was a Boy Scout through high school and enjoyed canoeing when he was younger. James was a cancer survivor. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Masons.

James is survived by his wife, Marcia; his son, Noah (Deborah) Coleman of Cullman, AL; his daughter, Christina Coleman of IN; step children: Ben (Tracey) Rasch of Jackson, FL, Rebecca Timmons of Reno, NV, Heather (Barry) Galloway of Indianapolis, IN, and Michelle (Megan) Monroe of Redfield ; 10 grandchildren; and his sister, Judy (Robert) Paton of IN.

James was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother.
