James C. Otto, 79, of Redfield, SD and formerly of Tulare, SD, died Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. His funeral will be Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tulare United Church. Reverend Deb Mack will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Tulare. Jim was born August 16, 1928 in Tulare to Gunther and Marie (Clark) Otto. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Tulare High School in 1946. After graduation he farmed with his family for many years and drove school bus for the Tulare School. Jim was a member of Mason's Zenith Lodge 202 of Tulare since 1963, Order of Eastern Star Oasis Chapter 148 since 1967, Tulare Lions Club, Yelduz Shrine and Clowners and taught Sunday school.

Jim was an avid bingo player and dog lover. He enjoyed all kids for generations taking them to shows, skating and sledding. He also coached Legion baseball, DeMolay and was a Boy Scout leader. Jim was always dependable for giving rides to doctor's appointments or to the grocery store and for supplying bingo prizes.

Jim is survived by his sister Phyllis Ehrich of Redfield and his brother Dean (Beth) Otto of Shoreview, MN and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Dale and Glen.
