October 9, 1939 – September 22, 2019
Janice M. Rainford, 79, of Redfield, SD, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Avantara Redfield, in Redfield, SD. Her funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, SD. Pastor Brian Wasmoen will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Following the burial service, lunch will be served at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Redfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, SD. The family will be present at that time to accept condolences. Janice Marie Mowery was born on October 9, 1939, to Milton and Orva (Beckett) Mowery in Doland, SD. She grew up and attended school in Doland, SD.
On February 1, 1957, Janice married Dwight Rainford in Watertown, SD. To this union two children were born; Rick and Rhonda. The Rainford family lived in the Doland area until 1963. They then moved to the Redfield area and farmed northwest of Redfield. Janice also ran the café in the sale barn for a while.
In 1977 she moved into Redfield and went to work at the South Dakota Developmental Center, retiring after 25 years.
Janice liked to watch stock car races and was a big fan of NASCAR, and NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon. She also liked to cook and enjoyed canning vegetables in the fall. Janice and her family started the tradition of baking apple pies, just to give them away.
Janice is survived by her children: Rick (Darnell) Rainford of Aberdeen, SD; and Rhonda (Kevin) Geuke of Redfield, SD. She is also survived by four grandsons; two step-grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Janice is also survived by her sister Donna Peppers, Rapid City, SD.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dwight in 2006, and her sister Delores Kleinsasser.
