Janice Esther (Schultz) Steinheuser, age 87, of Tulare, SD, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield, SD.

Her services will take place on Saturday, May 23, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Visitation, with family present, will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Janice’s funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Todd Bowers officiating. After the funeral, her graveside service will take place at Graceland Cemetery in rural Tulare. Lunch will then be served at the Tulare Community Center.

Janice was born on October 14, 1938, in Huron, SD, to Walter and Esther (Seigling) Schultz. She grew up on a farm west of Tulare, where she developed a love for showing Hereford cattle. She graduated from Tulare High School in 1956.

She married the love of her life, Stanley Steinheuser, on February 8, 1959, at St. John’s Church west of Tulare. They were married for 66 years. To this union, three children were born: Mark, Julie, and Jay.

Janice enjoyed gardening and tending her fruit trees, giving away farm-fresh eggs, and feeding anyone who showed up on the farm at mealtime. Every fall, her silage cutting crew’s meals were the best.

She accepted the Lord as her Savior while attending country school. She attended Bethany Bible Baptist Church in Tulare and actively served wherever she could. She also volunteered at the Good Samaritan Center, where she loved helping others.

She is survived by her children: Mark (Shari) Steinheuser, Julie (Frank) Grehl, and Jay (Christy) Steinheuser; grandchildren: Lance Steinheuser, Scott (Jacklyn) Steinheuser, Shaylyn (Clint) Stout, Vanessa (Eric) Edwards, Cassandra (Andrew) Stupka, Nick (Sydney) Grehl, Katelyn (Connor) McPeck, Nathan (Jazzy) Grehl, and Logan, Sadie, and Wyatt Steinheuser; great-grandchildren: Harper, Saylor, Jentry and Hesston Steinheuser, Stran and Stocktyn Stout, Bryden and Breckyn Edwards, Jada, Audra, Ariana, and Sylvia Stupka; Addyson Grehl; Raidor and Ronix McPeck, and Braxton and Paige Grehl; sister-in-law MaryJean Jensen; brother-in-law Alan (Diann) Steinheuser; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband Stanley; parents Walter and Esther Schultz; in-laws Milton and Sylvia Steinheuser; brother Durrell (Marilyn) Schultz; and brother-in-law Eldon Jensen.
