Janice Nadine Sjodin, 68, of Aberdeen, SD, died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Providence Mother Joseph Care Center in Olympia, WA after her battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. Father Ed Pierce will celebrate the mass.
After a time for fellowship and lunch the burial will be in Garfield Cemetery near Tulare, SD.
Visitation will be Friday from 1-8:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services at the church. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Janice was born January 25, 1942 in Redfield to Brandt and Dorothy (Schmidt) Ost. Janice graduated from Tulare High School in 1960 and St. John's School of Nursing in 1963. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Redfield Clinic from 1963-1973 before moving to Aberdeen. In 1973, she began working at Aberdeen Living Center and after a period of time became the Director of Nursing. She worked at Dakota Midland Hospital for a few years before transferring to the St. Lukes Hospital 3rd Floor oncology unit in 1987. In 1993, she also started working at Dr. Conklin's office as an oncology nurse. She continued at St. Lukes and Dr. Conklin's office until her retirement in 2007. During her last few years of work, she also was a Hospice worker. After her retirement, she volunteered with Home Health.
In 1965, she became a member of the Catholic Church and was a devoted member until her death. She was a member of Band 6, volunteering her time at funerals. She was also an active member of Light of the World, Daughters of the Nile and a Sertoma Member.
In the last twenty years, she loved to travel and visited many countries abroad. She also loved to dance and enjoyed listening to music.
Janice is survived by her son John Sjodin of Las Vegas, NV and her daughter Jill (Kevin) Sjodin Straight of Olympia, WA. Her grandchildren: Daniel Sjodin and Tiffany (Antony) Savelli and their children (Janice's great grandchildren and twins) Madisyn and Matthew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Rodney and Daryl Ost.
