Jean M. Hurst, 90, of Redfield, SD, died Monday, March 5, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Redfield. Her funeral will be Friday, March 9th at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational UCC Church in Redfield. Reverend Tim Fugman will officiate. After a time for lunch and fellowship the burial will be in the Bonilla Cemetery. Jean was born December 21, 1921 in Bonilla to Earl and Pearl (Sickles) French. She grew up in the Bonilla area and graduated from Bonilla High School in 1939. Jean married Arthur Hurst on March 2, 1940 in Hitchcock, SD. They farmed in the Bonilla area and in 1954 started Art's Grocery and CafAC.. They ran that business until 1964, when Jean started working at South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield. She retired in 1983. They moved to Redfield in 1972. Art died in 1993.

Jean was a Foster Grandparents for several years and she enjoyed crafts, embroidering and reading.

Jean is survived by her daughter Lynnette Sutton of Redfield, her son Glen (Mary) Hurst of Papillion, NE; fourteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Vernon French of Bryon, OH; and her sister Eleanor Christianson of Joplin, MT.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur, her daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Lee Raether, her great granddaughter, two brothers: Wayne and Norman and her sister Lois Poe.
