Jean Pauline (Johnson) Alexander, 93, of Sioux Falls, SD and formerly of Redfield, SD, passed away October 29, 2019, at Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield with the Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield. (www.hykefuneralhome.com)
Jean Pauline Johnson was born in Garden City, SD on January 7, 1926, to Richard and Elvira (Berggren) Johnson. As a young adult, she spent her summers in Alexandria, MN with her sister, Alice. During one of her visits, she ran across a newspaper posting of a serviceman serving in the Korean conflict that was interested in receiving mail from home. Jean began corresponding with her future husband, Bill. They were married September 30, 1954 in Alexandria. They lived in Garden City before moving to Redfield in 1958.
Jean was a homemaker and stayed active within her church community. After a decline in her health, she moved to Sioux Falls to be near her daughter, Melody.
Survivors include her daughters, Melody (Loren) Rohrer of Sioux Falls, SD and Charlotte Wessels of Smyrna, GA; three grandchildren, Megan (Dustin) Daley of Modesto, CA, Anton "Tony" (Amanda) Wessels, Jr. of McDonough, GA and Lauren (Mohamed) Ibrahim of Sioux Falls; six great-grandchildren, Summer Wessels of Covington, GA, Haydyn Wessels of McDonough, Antonio and Guilianna Daley of Modesto, and Adam and Lena Ibrahim of Sioux Falls.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband, William "Bill" Alexander; brothers, Richard and Raymond Johnson; sisters, Alice Rote and Lorraine Johnson; and son-in-law, Anton Wessels.
The family requests no flowers.
