Obituary

Jerry Dean Hardie, 87, of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 30th, 2024. Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 8th, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, where the family will be present to accept condolences. A prayer service, time of sharing, and rosary will follow at 4:30 p.m.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 9th, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield, officiated by Father John Short. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Redfield. Lunch and fellowship will follow in the church hall.

Jerry Dean Hardie was born on November 5th, 1936, to Ernest and Louise (Becker) Hardie at the Redfield Baldwin Hospital. He was the youngest of four sons and attended Franz County School, located half a mile east of the family farm.

On November 7th, 1959, he married Ardis Cleberg in Redfield. Together, they were blessed with seven children. Jerry dedicated his entire life to farming, working alongside his brother Keith until his retirement in 2014. His life was filled with farming and playing slow-pitch softball. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Jerry and Ardis spent a significant part of their lives attending their grandchildren's weddings, graduations, and numerous other activities, always providing unwavering support and love.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Ardis, of Redfield; and his children: David (Carol) Hardie of Redfield, SD; Julie (Ed) Marlow of Sweetwater, TN; Janet (Kim) Griffin of Falcon, CO; Laura Martinmaas of Sioux Falls, SD; Andrea (James) Logan of Frankfort, SD; Aron (Steve) Larson of Sioux Falls, SD; and Jessica (Jon) Haneke of Hartford, SD. He is also survived by 34 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, and his two grandsons.
