Obituary

John Emil Diede, 84, of Redfield died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Redfield, SD. Visitation will be Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.

Graveside Services will be Monday, May 4, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Huron, SD. Pastor Josh Kendrick will officiate. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com)

John Emil Diede was born on April 22, 1931 to Christian and Lydia (Huber) Diede on a small farm west of Aplena S.D. Growing up he worked on the family farm. In 1951 he joined the Marine Corp and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953.

On September 15, 1951 John married Julie Stahl in Huron S.D. He worked at various jobs in Huron before moving to Tulare where he owned and operated the Tulare Locker Plant from 1966 to 1978. His customers enjoyed the homemade salami that he made. After selling the family business John worked at the Redfield State School in the laundry department until retiring in 1997. John and Julie moved back to Huron, S.D. and then back to Redfield to be closer to his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. John loved his dogs Candy and Mason.

John is survived by his wife Julie Diede and three daughters Jeannine (Danny) Akin of Ashton, Judy Wilkinson (Steve Baird) of Frankfort, Janelle (Paul) Zens of Redfield, and one son Jeff Diede of Watertown' 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two sisters Carol North and Martha Lambert, and a brother Jake Diede.
