Judith Lee Hughes, 69, of Redfield, SD, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Her funeral service will be Monday, October 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Redfield United Methodist Church. Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. Judith Lee Carver was born on October 28, 1946 to Chester and Marie (Stroud) Carver, in Tacoma, WA. She attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, WA in 1964. Judith attended and graduated from Vancouver Bible College in Vancouver, WA in 1976. Judith also graduated from The Prairie Bible Institute in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Judith met her husband Robert Hughes while attending a bible study class in Lincoln, NE. Robert and Judith were married on August 2, 1975 in Lincoln. In 1977, they moved to Dubuque, IA, where Judith was a homemaker and license examiner with the Department of Motor Vehicles while Robert attended the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. The family then moved to Garden Plain, IL where they adopted twins, Nick and Nicole. After eight years in Garden Plain, the family moved to Davis, SD where Judith worked as a temporary secretary and sold books. In 1995, Judith and her family moved to Clark, SD and then to Redfield in 1998 where Judith was employed as a caregiver at Lakeside Assisted Living and a cook's assistant at Leo's Good Food. In 2007, Judy was diagnosed and treated for cancer. She had remained cancer free since then.
Judy was a loving and faithful wife. She was honest and fun to be around and always left a print on everyone's heart. Judy enjoyed meeting with her friends. She really enjoyed Diet Coke, chocolate, shopping, and she especially loved being around children. Judy was an avid collector and had an amazing collection of jewelry and spoons which she acquired from her travels including her Mission trip to Ecuador or from friends and family.
She was a member of TOPS, the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women as well as a past member of the United Presbyterian Women.
Judy is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert; her daughter Nicole (Ryan Skadsen) Hughes of Redfield; her son Nick Hughes of Maple Grove, MN; and grandson Jekobe Hughes of Redfield. She is also survived by her uncle and aunt, Harold and Betty Stroud and cousins Richard and Debra.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Marie Carver, and a special friend Linda Twedt.
Family will be present during the visitation to accept condolences.
