Obituary

June I. Anderson, 86, of Redfield, SD, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Lakeside Assisted Living in Redfield.  Her graveside memorial service will be 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.   Mickey Harms will lead the service.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

June Irene Baker was born April 14, 1932 in Redfield, SD to Lynn C. and Alma M. (Liberty) Baker.  She attended Redfield Public Schools and graduated in 1950.  On June 3, 1950, she married Richard "Dick" D. Anderson in Redfield.  June enjoyed being a homemaker and raising their two children:  Jeanie and Raymond.

Her nickname was "June Bug" and she was steadfast, faithful, trustworthy and someone you knew would always be there.  June loved creativity, things that were clever and her wit was uncanny.  She had a way of keeping you honest and educated her children about life by setting an example and "it is the principle of the matter."  As a homemaker, she was a meticulous housekeeper and one could have eaten off her floors at any time of the day or night.  She made a mean fried chicken and walleye that was unforgettable.  June was frugal and learned how to make do with what she had.

Long walks and bike rides were favorite hobbies.  You could often find her husband, Dick, riding his red scooter beside her.  June was a private person.  She was especially kind to older people.  She was matter of fact.  When she liked something, she liked it and when she didn't, she didn't.  She was known and will be remembered for eating with a pickle fork.

Towards the end of her life, June displayed a tremendous amount of courage and wisdom as she learned to accept life as it came with grace.  She was at peace and grateful, both of which personified her favorite saying, "patience is a virtue."

June is survived by her daughter:  Jeanie M. Tiff of Hot Springs, SD; and son Raymond D. Anderson of Rapid City, SD.  She is also survived by her granddaughters:  Vanah Maresh Anderson and Shania Anderson.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick, in 2017; and sisters:  Alviary Lynsne and Velva Hagen.
