Junior Gordon Newman, 91, of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield on Saturday, February 18, 2017. His memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Junior Gordon Newman was born May 2, 1925 in Redfield to Adeline (Ost) Newman. He was raised in Redfield and graduated from Redfield High School in 1943. Junior enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly after graduation. His unit, "The First Echelon of Lion Four" left the states in March of 1944 for the South Pacific Island of New Gruene and the Admiralty Islands. He was discharged in June, 1946.

Junior worked at Spink Electric Coop for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. For many years, he and Marilyn spent winters in Lake Havasu, AZ and summers at Cottonwood Lake near Redfield.

He was past president of the Kiwanis and Jaycees and a life member of the American Legion, VFW, Masonic Lodge and the United Methodist Church.

He leaves his wife of 68 years, Marilyn of Redfield; his sons: Rick of Pierre, SD and Terry (Barb) of Aberdeen, SD; his grandchildren: Jocelyn (Marcus) Frohm, Brendan (Andee) Newman, Caitlin (Chris) Podoll, Tyler (Tevan) Newman and three great-great grandchildren: Ella, Mason and Sawyer.

Junior was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Barb Newman.
