Kathy A. Iverson, 74, of Doland, SD, passed away after a short battle with stomach cancer on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.  Her funeral service will be Friday, July 28, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Doland.  Pastor Harold Loewen and Molley Leger will officiate.  Following lunch and fellowship, burial will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield.  Family will be present beginning at 4:00 p.m. to accept condolences.   Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)

Kathryn Ann Iverson was born October 1, 1942 to Leonard and Mary Josephine (Wright) Erickson at the hospital in Redfield.

Kathy grew up four miles west of Doland. She attended Doland School through the 11th grade before completing her GED at the University of Minnesota.

Through a blind date, Kathy married the love of her life, Lealand Iverson, on September 6, 1959 in Doland, SD. The couple moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where, to this union, three children were born Robert "Bob", Juanita, and Gordon.  After 14 years in Minneapolis, they moved back to Doland to take over the family farm.

Kathy, known as the "General" by her family, was a homemaker and farmer's wife, mother, grandmother to six grandchildren, and great-grandmother to three. She was very active in the Doland Community. She served as bus driver for 44 years, ensuring that 3 generations of Doland children arrived safely to school. Kathy made potato salad and planned parties in the party room, sang in the community-wide cantata, and helped with other community events including Vacation Bible School, Back to Doland, and church evening circle. Kathy was a member of Rebekah for 43 years, serving twice as State President. She was also President of United Methodist Women and a member of the American Legion Auxilliary in Doland, SD.

Kathy leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Lealand Iverson of Doland, SD; three children: Robert "Bob" (Jeanine) Iverson of Bath, SD, Juanita (Vince) Adrian of Marion, SD, and Gordon (Annette) Iverson of Doland, SD; six grandchildren: Melanie (Aaron) Murra, Nicholas (Aubrey) Iverson, Seth (Christina) Adrian, Hannah (Cory) Furney, Mary (Nate) Smith, and Jacob Iverson; three great-grandchildren: Ashton & Annabel Murra and Liam Iverson; her siblings: Jodie Erickson (special friend, Ricky Jones) of Springdale, AR; Curtis (Janis) Erickson of Bath, SD; Wayne (special friend, Melody Tomlinson) of Westfork, AR; her sister-in-law Pat Erickson of Northglenn, CO; several nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.
