Kathy was born on December 6, 1940 in Redfield, SD to Dorothy Afdahl. She was adopted by Dr. Kenneth and Gladys (Nelson) Fehlman of Clark, SD. Growing up, they lived in many towns though out the state but eventually settled in Redfield. She graduated from Redfield High School and married Alan Maddox in 1960. They had 3 sons: John, Randall and Kenneth.

Kathy was involved in the Redfield Lioness Club, Spink County Historical Society, and Our Savior Lutheran Church. She loved being involved with the boy scouts and was a recipient of the Silver Fawn award.

Kathy worked at the James Valley Nursing Home and babysat for 25 years. In 1987, they took on a new adventure and purchased 7 llamas. They traveled showing llamas and enjoyed every minute of it, especially when the grandchildren went along. When Kathy took on a project, she became very passionate about it. This was obvious with her love for the Chicago and Northwestern Historic Railroad Depot. This was a job she truly loved.
Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed knitting, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sons John and Kenneth; and 2 brothers: Allen Thomas and Dick Thomas.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Alan Maddox; son, Randall (Carol) Maddox; three grandchildren: Jessica (Brandon) Anderson, Justin Kissner and Emily Maddox; brothers: Ralph (Nancy) Fehlman of Ashton, SD and Jerry (Judy) Thomas of Bismarck, ND; several nieces and a nephew. She is also survived by their good friend, Wilbur Dvorak.
