Larry James Gereaux, 81, of Doland, SD, died at home on Friday, October 2, 2020. His graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020, at the Doland Cemetery in Doland with Reverend Eldon Reich officiating.  Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield, SD has been entrusted with arrangements. Larry was born on April 28, 1939, in Doland, SD, to Floyd and Marion (Hofma) Gereaux. He was raised on farms in the Doland area and attended school in Doland. Larry spent many of his early years helping his grandfather, Sietse Gerben Hofma, and grandmother, Sophie Hansen Hofma on their farm.

For many years, Larry worked as a farm laborer and janitor at the school.  He also delivered both the Aberdeen and Watertown newspapers in Doland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing lawns, and gardening. His favorite TV show was "The Price Is Right" and he loved watching football with his cat curled up on his lap.

Faith was very important to Larry and he was a member of the Doland United Methodist Church.  He was also an active and proud member of the Doland community and was loved by those who knew him.  He played cards at the senior center, followed the local weather closely, and would walk or ride his three-wheeled bicycle daily to visit people and pick up garbage to help keep his beloved town clean.

Larry is survived by his sister Carol (Gary) Fandrich of Bismarck, ND; and brother Robert (Elaine) Gereaux of Yankton, SD. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and close friend LeAnne Bawek and her family of Doland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Delwin and David Gereaux; and four sisters: Pat Bailey, Beverly Kritz, Bonnie Guest, and Dolores Jones.
