Larry Ray Heinzerling, 73, of Redfield, SD passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2007at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD.
A Memorial service will be held at Friday, November 30, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redfield, SD, with Reverend Tim Fugman officiating.
Larry Ray was born on February 23, 1934 on his parent's anniversary to J.W. "Bill" and Louise (Bingham) Heinzerling in Miller, SD. At an early age his family moved to Washington. When he was five his family moved back to South Dakota. On February 25, 1952 he married Bess Fanger, to this union six children were born. He was later united in Marriage to Janice Quick Tellinghuisen of Castlewood, SD in Denver, CO on May 23, 1984.
He got his start in the well drilling business with his mother's cousin Ross Bingham. Larry was also an accomplished welder and mechanic. He later worked for Pullman Well Drilling and Huron Well Drilling. He built and repaired their rigs. While working at Pullmans, he remodeled and converted a well rig to meet the requirements for that rig to go to Africa.
Larry also enjoyed car racing, having driven a modified car in the late 60's early 70's. He liked to watch NASCAR races and going camping and fishing. After his retirement he enjoyed wood work, he built scale models of well rigs, cars and other things.
He is survived by his wife Janice, four sons, two daughters , seventeen grandchildren, five great grandsons and one great granddaughter: Danny Heinzerling and his children: Andy, Brett, Abby, John and Samantha; Dana and Kathy Heinzerling and their children: Angela, Jarod, Matt, Pete and Michelle; Dillon Heinzerling and his children: Dan, Matt and Hannah; Dawn and Rick Sass and their children: Jason, David and his wife Nicole; Denise Purintun and her children: April and Kyle; and Dennis Heinzerling. Larry is also survived by a sister Nancy Kelley; a sister-in-law Peggy Heinzerling, a brother-in-law, Milton and Lil Quick; several nieces and nephews; three step brothers and a step sister.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother Olive, one brother, Merlin, a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Gorden Strasburg, and a step brother Bob Wharton.
