Larry was born April 5, 1940 in Redfield to Lester and Lavina (Geuke) Lempke. Huck was an only child and his mother died when he was 14. He lived with an uncle and many people in the Redfield area helped raise him to adulthood. He attended school in Zell and graduated from Redfield High School in 1958. He started working a Harry's Egg Station at age 14 and worked there for 11 years. He then started at Dakota Hatchery and Mill until 1974 and worked for South Dakota Wheat Growers until he retired in 2005.

Huck was a big part of the Frankfort community, serving on the Fire Department as Fire Chief, City Council and anything that had to do with softball. He coached his softball team "Huck's Hounds" and umpired many games in the area. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, drives in the country, checking livestock and going to area sale barns. He rarely missed a NSU basketball game.

He was a member of the St. Ann's Catholic Church, President of the Frankfort Softball Association, 4-H leader and Jaycees. He was a member of the SD Umpires Hall of Fame and Redfield Baseball Association Field of Dreams Award winner in 2005.

Huck is survived by his godson Kevin (Lindsay) Haider of Wolsey and their children: Tate, Chantel, Brynn and Keegan and his friend and helper Diane (Dave) Willis of Redfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
