Obituary

Larry L. Morrison, 68, of Redfield, SD, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, of metastatic lung cancer, having battled it since 2009, at Avera St. Lukes Hospital. Larry was cremated and his memorial service will be Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Redffield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. Larry Lyle Morrison was born on December 4, 1942 in Brookings to Lyle and Mardell (Richardson) Morrison. In childhood he moved with his family to naval bases until settling in Flandreau, SD in 1957. There he completed high school in 1961 and attended South Dakota State (College) University. He married Janet Kay Hasvold on June 5, 1964 at Clare Lutheran church near Flandreau. They made their home in Flandreau, where their children were born, then moved to Tulare, SD in 1971. They moved to Redfield in 1972.

In life, he was an ardent waterfowler, archery hunter for deer, fisherman and general outdoorsman. His devotion to family and friends was deep and lifelong. His penchant for projects expanded his knowledge of many subjects. He worked as a dorm parent at the Flandreau Indian School, teacher's aide at the Flandreau Public School, Deputy Sheriff in Moody County, and a City Police Officer in Flandreau. After moving to Redfield he was an insurance agent, a Redfield City Police Officer and a Deputy Sheriff for Spink County, retiring in 2002.

He was an active Boy Scout as a youth and served as a Boy Scout Leader as an adult. He was very active in the local Ducks Unlimited. Larry was involved with the Fraternal Order of Police, and volunteered with the youth activities such as fishing derbies and basketball tournaments.

He is survived by his wife Janet, children Dr. Connie Morrison of Worthington, MN; Dr. Daniel (Beth) Morrison of Gillette, WY; Dr. Kristine (Ron) Wren of Redfield and grandchildren Barrett Wren, Brant Morrison, Elsa Wren and Zane Morrison. He is also survived by his sister Sandra Jean (Mark) Ekern of Flandreau.


He is preceded in death by his parents.
