LaVonne Ruth Platte, 82, formerly of Redfield, SD, died Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, Iowa. Her funeral will be Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-2:00 pm at the church prior to the funeral. The family prefers memorials may be made to Salvation Army. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com)
LaVonne was born April 11, 1931 in Forbes, North Dakota, the daughter of Johann C. and Eva Wolff. She attended school in Forbes, North Dakota until 1945 when the family moved to Faulkton, South Dakota. After LaVonne graduated from Faulkton High School in 1949 she joined her sister, Hilda Wolff Johnson, working fulltime for their father in the Red Owl Agency grocery store. After the family sold the Red Owl Agency store in 1956, LaVonne worked at the Faulk County State Bank in Faulkton. In 1960 she opened Skogmo Store selling clothing, shoes, dry goods and notions in Faulkton. On November 11, 1978, LaVonne married Lawrence H. Platte of Redfield, SD in the Lutheran Church in Faulkton. They made their home in Redfield, SD and she continued operation of the Skogmo Store until she sold it and retired in 1980.
LaVonne was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Forbes, ND and was a member of the Lutheran Church in Faulkton until after her marriage when she joined the United Methodist Church in Redfield, SD.
After retirement she enjoyed her home, her family, a good number of her countless cousins and many friends.
Those who survive "Auntie" are her niece Gwen McIntosh of West Liberty, IA, great-nephews, Jack Steven McIntosh and his sons Dyllon and Braydon of Iowa City, IA, Brian L. McIntosh of Redfield, South Dakota and James J. McIntosh (Mandi) and their children Ryan, Kameron, Madison and Elsa of West Liberty, IA and her great-niece, Andrea J. McIntosh (Carlos Feliciano) of Macomb, IL, Andrea's daughter Cecelia McIntosh of Indianapolis, IN and her children Ivan, Michael and Jose of Jalisco, Mexico and Andrea's sons Mark Reyes in Aguascalientes, Mexico and Leonardo Feleciano in Macomb, IL.
Preceding LaVonne in death were her parents, husband, sister, great-great niece Jade Marie Hoyt-McIntosh and nephew-in-law, Jack L. McIntosh.
