Wee" Keith Klug
September 1, 1943 – August 7, 2019
Leland "Pee Wee" Keith Klug, 75, of Redfield, SD, passed peacefully into the Lord's arms on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at Avantara Redfield. His memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2019, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow at the Tulare Cemetery in Tulare, SD. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com).
Leland Keith Klug was born in Huron, SD on September 1, 1943, the fourth of four children, to Elmer and Irene (Meier) Klug. He was nicknamed "Pee Wee" by his oldest sister, Mavis, and the name stuck with him throughout his life.
Pee Wee attended school in Redfield and then he went on to enlist with the U. S. Army National Guard unit in Redfield. He served with the National Guards for over 11 years and he had boot camp in Alaska twice.
Pee Wee has two sons, Wayne and Michael. During his working years, Pee Wee held several jobs which included working for farmers, working in a commercial dairy, plastic factory, well drilling and managing apartment buildings. In 2005, he returned to South Dakota from Arizona and Georgia and he became involved with the Spink County Senior Citizens. He also had a part-time job delivering mail to Eastern Star Home residents.
He had a joking attitude and loved watching baseball and playing pitch and pinochle. He was a collector of John Wayne movies and "The Duke" was second only to family. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield.
Pee Wee is survived by his sons: Wayne Klug of South Dakota and Michael Klug of California; his granddaughters: Kai and Kier Klug; his sisters: Koreen Hewitt and Mavis Brink both of Arizona; as well as several nieces and nephews in both South Dakota and Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Stanley.
