Lennart William Anderson was born July 15, 1926, on a farm near Orient, SD to William and Hannah Anderson. He was the sixth of nine children born to his parents who had both emigrated from Sweden. Lennart grew up in Orient until the age of 12 when his family moved to a farm east of Redfield and in 1942, they purchased a farm southeast of Redfield in Lodi Township.
Lennart was born to be a farmer, and in 1952 he bought two quarters of land ½ mile north of his parent's farm. The land had a very humble farm site and two of Lennart's brothers (Paul and Wally) lived with him for a time prior to his marriage to Jeannine Brugger from Tulare on June 17, 1956. Over the next years, Lennart and Jeannine both worked diligently to expand their farming operation and they instilled a strong work ethic in their children: Monte, Shannon, and LaRee.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and in his younger adult years, Lennart was a member of the Masons and Odd Fellows. He enjoyed playing card games with family and friends. Dancing was always important to Lennart; he especially enjoyed square dancing, polka, and waltz. From his love of music, he even taught himself to play the accordion.
Lennart was a farmer first, foremost, and always. He was recognized as an Outstanding Young Farmer in 1961. He raised cattle, hogs, and chickens but he mostly loved the land and the machinery to operate it. After getting out of the livestock business, Lennart enjoyed many winters as a snowbird in the Mesa, Arizona area. In 2015, Lennart rented out his farmland and moved into Redfield. He began residing at the Eastern Star Home in April of 2016.
Lennart is survived by his children: Monte (Sheila) Anderson of Spangle, WA; Shannon (Ted) Williams of Redfield; LaRee (Tal) Farnham of Elkton, SD; four grandsons: Dustin Waldner and his son Weston of Redfield, Nathan (Felicia) Anderson of Seattle, WA, Austin (Tessa Stoltenburg) Farnham of Omaha, NE, and Trevan (Austyn Freeman) Farnham of Sioux Falls; and sister Ruth Jessen of Redfield.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers: Paul, Phillip, Carl, and Wallace, and sisters: Helen Eckman, Eleanor Frankenstein, and Martha Hawkinson.
